Ecuador came from behind to see off Bolivia and ensure their qualification to the final stage. A close range shot from Darwin Rios (Guabirá) opened the scoring; he has now scored in each of Bolivia's last three games and this blog will monitor him after this tournament to see how he progresses. The equaliser for Ecuador came via a tap-in by Walter Chalá (Deportivo Cuenca). Renato Ibarra (El Nacional) played a lovely scooped ball into the area in the build up to this one.
The goal that gave Ecuador the lead was a wonderful one; Fernando Gaibor (Emelec) played an absolutely beautiful long pass to Marcos Caicedo (also Emelec) who went on a very nice run and coolly finished through the keeper's legs. The third and final goal was scored by Edson Montaño (Gent) who is having a good tournament for Ecuador and looks to be one of their best players. Substitute Jonathan de la Cruz (Universidad Católica) played a sublime long pass for this one.
Colombia U20 3-3 Paraguay U20
Colombia and Paraguay played out a thrilling contest in Tacna and the final score meant that Colombia advanced to the final stage. Paraguay stormed into a two goal lead with two goals in five minutes in the first half; Claudio Correa (Sportivo Luqueño) with the first, Oscar Ruiz (Free Agent) with the second. Two minutes after Paraguay's second goal however, Edwin Cardona (Atlético Nacional) scored a clever header to send the teams in at half time with the score 2-1.
Paraguay restored their two-goal cushion on 57 minutes, the two Ruiz's combining well and not for the first time this tournament. It was Nelson Ruiz (Rubio Ñú) who assisted for Oscar Ruiz's second of the night. Colombia got themselves a second goal through Andrés Escobar (Deportivo Cali) but looked to be heading out of the competition before Edwin Cardona scored a late penalty kick to equalise with just three minutes of normal time remaining.
