Peru U20 2-0 Uruguay U20: highlights and final Group A standings

Peru got their first win of the tournament but it was not enough to see them through to the final stage. Angel Ojeda (Melgar) opened the scoring after combining well with Carlos Ascues (Alianza Lima). Ojeda caught the eye of GUSU against Argentina when he had several long shots and seemed to strike the ball extremely well. He got himself a goal in this game albeit a deflection.

The second goal came after 70 minutes when an absolutely marvellous long pass from André Carrillo (Alianza Lima) played in Diego Donayre (Alianza Lima) who coolly slotted past the goalkeeper.

Unfortunately then this is the end of the line for hosts Peru in this tournament. They were not able to get two more goals which would have miraculously sent them through to the final stage. They have been enjoyable to watch at times and had a real standout player in Christian Cueva (Universidad San Martín). He and one or two of his teammates will continue to be watched by this blog.
